GROUP LABELS TEXAS GAY MARRIAGE RULING 'HOMOPHOBIC'
Equality Texas, the state's largest gay advocate, has blasted a Texas ruling that declares the state's gay marriage ban constitutional.
The ruling issued Tuesday by the Fifth Texas Court of Appeals overturns a lower court's decision that allowed a gay couple to divorce and found the state's ban on gay marriage in violation of the U.S. Constitution.
District Judge Tena Callahan's ruling allowed two Dallas men, known only as J.B. and H.B., married in Massachusetts to divorce. But Texas Attorney General Greg Abbot, a Republican, intervened in the case, arguing that the marriage should be "voided," which essentially nullifies the marriage as invalid.
"The court's view of same-sex relationships is uninformed, outdated and homophobic – predicating its decision upon the ability to have children naturally – thereby ignoring the thousands of Texas households raising kids with same-sex parents or even single parent households," the group said in a statement first reported by gay weekly The Dallas Voice. > Full Story. CHILD OF MARRIED LESBIANS IN BEDFORD, TX DENIED ENROLLMENT INTO SCHOOL
A child has been denied entrance into an Episcopal school in Bedford because her parents are married lesbians.
Jill and Tracy Harrison, lesbians married in 2006 in Canada, applied to enroll their daughter into St. Vincent's School, in June.
Jill gave birth to Olivia, thanks to a sperm donor. On the application, they crossed out the word father on the application and wrote mother and put Tracy's name on that line. Jill was written on the mother line.
They attended the school's parent night on Tuesday, and now, just a few days before school starts Monday, the school is denying their daughter Olivia enrollment into the school because her parents are lesbians, the women said. > Full Story. [8/23/10]

GAY PARTNER BENEFITS UP FOR A VOTE IN EL PASO, TEXAS
Voters will get to decide whether the domestic partners of gay city employees in El Paso, Texas can keep their health insurance benefits, local Fox affiliate KFOX14 reported.
Last August, city council leaders tucked a measure that extended such benefits inside the 2010 budget, which they approved in a 7 to 1 vote. The law covers the domestic partners of both straight and gay workers, but gay and lesbian couples who cannot marry in the state are disproportionately affected.

DISCOUNTED TICKETS TO LGBT RACE FANS TO ATTEND THE NASCAR KOBALT TOOLS 500 ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 2010
International Raceway (PIR) has partnered with Queer4Gears.com to offer special discounted tickets to their Lesbian and Gay race fans to attend the NASCAR Kobalt Tools 500 on Sunday, November 14, 2010. With this special discount, admission for the race starts at $25.00. Additional information about the promotion is available at: www.PhoenixRaceway.com/LGBT
The track has been working on this promotion with Queer4Gears.com, a
website devoted to gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and trans-gendered, also collectively known as LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual and Transgender) NASCAR fans.
PIR recognizes that they have a very diverse fan base and they want to reach out to all of them. While covering the Subway Fresh Fit 500 in April, Queer4Gears.com founder, Michael Myers began conversations
with Phoenix International Raceway officials.
To his knowledge, Myers said that this will be the first time that any NASCAR sanctioned facility has reached out to fans in the L.G.B.T. community.
"Just a small push like including the L.G.B.T. community on the official web site of Phoenix International Raceway is a step in the right direction for uniting the different stereotypes that surround the racetracks on a weekly basis" said Queer4Gears.com founder Michael Myers. "I applaud Phoenix International Raceway for what they are trying to do and it definitely will speak volumes towards the gay race fans. It is a big first step."
Myers went onto say, "I started Queers4Gears as a resource for the gay and lesbian fans that already love NASCAR. However, another goal is to bring new fans to the sport. I was excited to work with the folks at Phoenix International Raceway on a promotion for L.G.B.T. fans. The discounted tickets are an incentive to flock new race fans to this great race track without breaking the bank. Plus, the Kobalt Tools 500 is included in the chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship; it's the second to last race of the year, so without a doubt it's going to be an incredible race."
Tickets in turn one and tour four for the 37th race on the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series tour begin at $25.00 and are available online along with additional input on the program at phoenixraceway.com/LGBT.
